What is a side hustle?
A side hustle is a way to make extra money in your free time apart from your full-time job. Even if you don’t have a full-time job, a side hustle is a great way to make extra money to add to your family’s household income.
Why should you have a side hustle?
Having multiple sources of income is always a smart idea. Side hustles can generate passive income (which is essentially making money in your sleep), help you achieve money goals like saving for a down payment for a house, or simply provide grocery money.
Who is a side hustle great for?
Anyone who wants or needs to earn extra cash aside from their main job. I love side hustles because they also have the potential to turn into a full-time job.
Benefits of side hustles
- Creates multiple streams of income
- Can add skills to your resume
- Increases confidence
- Can turn into a highly profitable business
Here’s a list of the best evening or overnight side hustles to earn extra money.
1. Pinterest Virtual Assistant
If you enjoy scrolling through Pinterest, you may want to consider becoming a Pinterest Virtual Assistant. A Pinterest Virtual Assistant is in charge of helping businesses get new customers from Pinterest. Businesses need to be on Pinterest because there’s a lot of money to be made there, which is why Pinterest Virtual Assistant’s are in such high demand.
Pinterest Virtual Assistant’s are in charge of creating Pinterest pins, pin descriptions, making sure their clients get traffic and new customers from Pinterest, and things of that nature.
I personally use Pinterest for my blog (which is a business) and it provides new customers and traffic on a daily basis. It’s one of the leading traffic sources for my blog and almost any business can thrive on the Pinterest platform.
If you’re interested in becoming a Pinterest VA, here is a free workshop: How To Become A Pinterest Virtual Assistant And Land Your First Client.
In the free workshop, you learn how and where to land your first client, 9 Pinterest services to offer and how much to charge, and what you need to get started as a Pinterest Virtual Assistant.
Look at this example below of Suzie. She took the Pinterest VA course and is now a full-time Pinterest Virtual Assistant averaging $2,000 a month working just 12 hours a week from home.
2. Make dog treats at home
Did you know you can make $1,000+ a month part-time working at home with a dog treat business? You can even make $5,000-$8,000 from your home kitchen if you do it full-time. You can get your kids involved, work from home, create your own schedule, and make treats for dogs. I don’t think it gets better than that.
My friend Kristin runs a successful dog treat business from home and perfected the craft of selling dog treats. She even teaches others how to replicate her success in her course Diva Dog Bakery.
I know you have a ton of questions about this and want to learn more before signing up for a course. That’s why Kristin offers a completely FREE workshop to answer all of your questions. Have more questions that aren’t covered in the workshop? You can contact Kristin via email. Get her free workshop here and see if this side hustle is for you.
3. Teaching English online to children
Voted as one of the top 10 places to work, VIPKID connects teachers teaching English to children in China. VIPKID has over 800,000 students and teaches over 5,000,000 classes a month. From those numbers, you can tell they always need new teachers as the company is constantly growing.
Teaching English online is a great way to make income at home, while on your own schedule. VIPKID makes education accessible by bringing together young learners with educators through one-on-one online classes.
This is a great side hustle for someone who prefers to work overnights or weekends.
Benefits of being a VIPKID Teacher:
- Set your own schedule
- Work when you want, where you want
- No commitment, no minimum hours
- Teach one-on-one with no lesson planning
- Earn $14-$22 per hour with VIPKID

- Community perks from companies like Amazon, TurboTax, ClassPass, and more
4. Sell Etsy Printables
Selling printables is my favorite side hustle on this list because it’s almost entirely passive income, meaning you do the work in one sitting, and then get paid for it for months and years to come.
With just a few hours of work, my friend Julie has made over $5,000 selling printables. She loves this side hustle and recommends it to anyone who is short on time, wants extra money, and wants to work from home.
Julie even created a free guide that includes the best-selling products month by month and how to capitalize on seasonal trends to make sales on Etsy. It’s a free download and so helpful! Julie also created a course that teaches people how to make passive income on Etsy with the course: E-Printables Side Hustle Course.
Below is an example of one her printables that took off and is a hot sell on Etsy.
5. Sell digital stickers on Etsy
Another great side hustle related to Etsy is selling digital planners and digital stickers. My friend Michelle sells digital planners and stickers on Etsy. Michelle personally uses digital planners and digital stickers, so she decided to sell them herself. She made over $700 her first month in profit. In her second month, she made over $1,000 in profit.
She even created an affordable course teaching others how to do the same, which you can see here. You don’t need to have any prior skills, you do not need a background in drawing, no special software required, and anyone can do this. This is a great side hustle for people looking to make some extra money every month.
I love side hustles like this because you put in a few hours of work, upload your digital products to Etsy, and then earn extra money for months to come. You can check out the Digital Stickers Course here.
6. Become A Tax Preparer
Did you know you can get trained online to become a Tax Preparer? This in-demand remote job can be done from anywhere in the world. A Tax Preparer prepares, files, and assists in general tax forms.
To get started in this field, take a high-quality tax preparation course. Do your research to find the best one for you. After doing my research, I found that the TaxBiz Course is one of the best. You learn a step-by-step method to start and run a successful tax business. TaxBiz is a certified provider through the IRS, so you have the opportunity to indicate your authority as a Tax Preparer.
I know you have so many questions about starting a digital tax business. You’re probably wondering if something like this is for you. That’s why there’s a free workshop to answer all of your questions. You can also read reviews from graduates and students on Better Business Bureau and Facebook.
If you have a talent for words and reading, proofreading is for you. Proofreading is a skill that is in high-demand because businesses need to look professional. When a business has mistakes in their writing, it’s not ideal. I personally hire a proofreader for large projects and cannot imagine not having one.
Proofreaders can work remote and from anywhere in the world. Having a computer and reliable internet access is a must. This job is typically done on your own schedule because you need to have the work done BY a certain time, not at a certain time.
8. Writing for websites
Do you enjoy writing? Freelance writing may be the side hustle for you. There’s even potential for this to become a full-time job. I was a freelance writer in college and found it be a great way to earn extra money writing for websites.
If you’re interested in learning more about making money as a freelance writer, I have two helpful articles from women who freelance write full-time.
Earn More Writing is a great course that teaches you everything you need to know to become a successful writer. There is also a free workshop I recommend signing up for called How To Build A Six-Figure Writing Career. The free workshop shows you the 6 keys to online freelance writing success and techniques Holly used to build a $200,000/year writing career.
9. Flipping items
Did you know you can make money by buying items and reselling them? You can earn even more money by fixing up an item and restoring it to a higher quality item.
If you want to learn how to buy and resell items for profit, Flipper University is an affordable way to learn how to create a profitable selling business in less than 14 days. The creators of this course created a side hustle that made them $42,000 their first year of side hustling and now make them over $133,00 a year.
A student of Flipper University made $373 in her first month. A few months later, her sales jumped to $1,505, the following month $3,598. She added up her total sales and made $60,307 since starting her side hustle. Really incredible. She also just joined the $100k club for hitting the $100,000 milestone in her flipping business.
Surveys are a great way to make extra money when you need extra cash for groceries or gas.
To make money with surveys, all you do is fill out a quick profile sharing a little about you and then you can start answering questions and giving your opinions. You can also sign up for several survey site websites to see which survey site you like best and to see which one can earn you the most cash.
The top survey sites are:
After you get done completed Swagbucks surveys, you can redeem your “points” for gift cards (seen below).
Starting a blog is not a get rich quick scheme. The best way I can describe it is starting an online business. Most people don’t see a profit until a few months, maybe even a year of blogging. However, the benefits are amazing. I’ve been blogging full-time for 4 years and I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else.
If you want to learn more about blogging full-time and how to get started, I have an amazing free course here.
The free course teaches you how to:
- How to create your own blog from scratch
- 10 things to do after launching your blog
- How to monetize your blog from the beginning
- The 1 blogging resource I recommend to new bloggers
12. Find a remote job on FlexJobs search engine
If you want a remote part-time or full-time job, FlexJobs is an online job marketplace similar to Indeed. FlexJobs is a step higher than Indeed because each job on FlexJobs goes through a thorough check to make sure it’s not a scam.
To browse and apply to jobs on FlexJobs, there’s a small fee since each job is scanned for quality and safety.
What if you don’t find a job on FlexJobs? You can ask for a full refund, no questions asked.
I personally tested FlexJobs, bought a 1-week membership to test out the site, and even asked for a refund. I highly recommend FlexJobs for remote jobs.
13. Amazon FBA
Reselling items with Amazon FBA is a great way to earn extra money without having to hold an inventory.
Not sure what Amazon FBA even means? An Amazon FBA business is an online store, but in this case, Amazon handles a lot of the stuff that causes headaches for most e-commerce store owners. “FBA” stands for “Fulfillment by Amazon.”
So you find the inventory, while Amazon stores the product for you, packs and ships it, and handles customer service. Amazon then keeps a portion of the sales as a commission & service fee. And like I mentioned earlier, my friends earned over $100,000 from reselling items via Amazon FBA.
My friends over at The Selling Family earn a six-figure income reselling items via Amazon FBA and find that it’s the easiest and best place to resell items.
They even have a free Amazon FBA starter course to help if you decide if selling on Amazon is right for you.
By the end of this 9-lesson course, you’ll know:
- Why Amazon is the best marketplace for resellers
- How using FBA gets you more sales
- The exact steps to follow to set up your Amazon Seller account
- Two easy, affordable ways to find inventory
- How to choose profitable inventory that customers actually want to buy
- Why you need to treat Amazon like a business
14. Grocery shopping
Grocery shopping may seem like an easy task, but many people rather pay someone to do their grocery shopping for them. Others simply do not have time to go grocery shopping and want to hire out the task.
To make money grocery shopping, become an Instacart Shopper. You get to set your own schedule and earn money on your time. To get started, you need to pass a background check, be at least 18 years old, have legal authorization to work in the U.S., lift 40 pounds with accommodation, and have access to a car and smart phone.
A side hustle is a great way to add to your streams of income and build new skills and confidence. Your side hustle may just become a full-time business for you!
