With over 27 million businesses in the U.S. and 500,000 new businesses starting each month, Facebook Ads Managers are making strides in the side hustle world.
Are you interested in how to work remotely as a Facebook Ads Manager?
I’m interviewing Robert from Real Money Robert who works as a full-time Facebook Ads Manager.
Robert shares what a Facebook Ads Manager is in charge of, his favorite and LEAST part of this job, and how much money he makes working remotely.
Becoming a FB Ads Manager isn’t for everyone. It’s a lot of work and outreach, but the people who love a little challenge definitely reap the rewards and make great money from this side hustle.
If you’re looking for a professional to run Facebook ads for your business, Robert is a great person to talk to. Let’s get started!
1. Can you share a little background info on yourself?
Sure, I’m 31 and happily married. My wife and I have a blended family with 5 kids, so things can get a little hectic around our house. We also love our animals.
We have 2 Bernese Mountain Dogs and a mixed breed doggo that we rescued as a puppy.
Along with that, we’ve begun our own little backyard homestead, which currently consists of 18 chickens, 5 ducks, and 4 goats!
I’ve always been a serial side hustler and I’ve done various side hustles throughout the years from getting free stuff and selling it all the way up to buying wrecked cars at auctions, fixing them, and selling them, and a whole bunch of stuff in between.
My side hustling ways led me in early 2018 to try out a side hustle that consisted of running Facebook ads for local small businesses.
2. What is a Facebook Ads Manager?
Someone who manages Facebook ads is responsible for creating successful Facebook ads that meet the needs of each of their clients.
They are also responsible for monitoring those ads to ensure their success, and analyzing the data from those ads to make adjustments as necessary and achieve the results we are looking for (traffic, leads, purchases, etc.) at the lowest cost possible.
3. What does someone need to do in order to become a Facebook Ads Manager?
If they are starting from scratch, they need to learn how to properly run Facebook ads, and I’d highly recommend focusing in on a specific type of Facebook ad for specific types of businesses.
For example, managing Facebook ads for an e-commerce store is much more involved and much more complex than running traffic ads for a blog or lead generation ads for local small businesses.
I started off with managing lead generation ads for local small businesses as was recommended to me by my mentors because this is a great place to start and be able to get fantastic results for your clients, while not taking up a ton of time.
4. How much does a Facebook Ads Manager make?
This really depends on how much time you want to dedicate and what types of clients and ads you decide to run, as well as whether or not you’ve built systems to help you automate certain tasks.
If you only plan to spend a few hours on this per week, you can realistically make a couple thousand per month on the side.
I’m at a point where I currently spend about 15-20 hours per week managing Facebook ads AND doing client acquisition and outreach, and I’m currently bringing in a little over $5,000 in monthly revenue.
It’s entirely possible to make five and six figures per month managing Facebook ads.
It takes a lot of knowledge and a ton of work, but it is definitely possible to make a great living as a Facebook Ads Manager.
5. What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about being a Facebook Ads Manager?
My favorite thing is the data, analytics, and numbers.
I’m very much a numbers guy, and I love interpreting data and implementing changes that improve the results I’m getting for my clients.
And at the end of the day, that makes a happy client, and I also enjoy making other people happy and helping others.
My least favorite part is client acquisition.
I’m not a natural salesperson, and reaching out to people and businesses can be exhausting sometimes.
But it is a necessity as without it, I’d have no clients!
Once I’m bringing in enough revenue, this will likely be the first thing that I decide to outsource.
6. How does someone become a Facebook Ads Manager?
I’d recommend starting with a course to teach you the ins and outs and where to start.
You can certainly just start and use free training available like the Facebook Blueprint, which will get you a decent amount of info to get started, but you can lose out on years of scaling quickly and getting phenomenal results for clients by trying to DIY the learning process.
Personally, I took a course called the Facebook Side Hustle Course, which was put together by the co-founders of Laptop Empires, Bobby Hoyt, and Mike Yanda.
They know their stuff and have been in the thick of managing Facebook ads for their own clients for a while now.
This course gives you all of the skills, abilities, and tools you need to be successful as a Facebook Ads Manager for local small businesses.
7. What advice do you have for someone who wants to become a Facebook Ads Manager?
Get ready to put in some work.
This isn’t a get rich quick scheme or a work 4 hours a week and makes millions type of gig.
It takes a lot of time and effort to get great results for clients, and it takes a ton of outreach and networking to land clients.
Don’t go into this thinking you are going to make thousands of dollars right away.
Be prepared to be patient, to be consistent, and to put in the necessary work to land clients, and get those clients great results.
