If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that having multiple sources of income is ideal. Whether it’s a side hustle that earns an extra $20 a day, or an online business that earns you $3,000 extra a month, the possibilities are endless with making extra money.

This list includes side hustles that earn you money immediately, and side hustles and online businesses that can earn money over time. The side hustle you choose for you depends on what you want. Do you need to make money now? Or are you willing to dedicate time and effort into creating a side hustle income that can potentially earn you a lot of money in the long run?

What is a side hustle?

A side hustle is a way to make extra money in your spare time apart from your main gig.

Why should you have a side hustle?

Having multiple sources of income is always a smart idea. Side hustles can also generate passive income (making money in your sleep), help you achieve money goals like saving for a down payment for a house, or simply provide grocery money.

Who is a side hustle great for?

Anyone who wants or needs to earn extra cash aside from their main job. I love side hustles because they also have the potential to turn into a full-time job. We’ll talk about this more down below!

Before we get started, make sure to sign up for my free resource library. I share some pretty amazing free stuff that you need to check out, and who doesn’t love free stuff?

Here are 30 side hustles perfect for social distancing, working at home or working for yourself.

1. Creating printables

Creating printables is a great way to earn money by creating digital items that people can print at home. This is a great way to make money because you create the printable once and it can be bought over and over again. Another perk, you don’t have to print and package anything because the printable can be printed at home by anyone who has access to a printer.

Printables can include things like wall art, planners, budgets, gift tags, cards, calendars, wrapping paper, and so much more.

This is a great side hustle for someone who wants to make passive income (earning money in your sleep – make a few printables, list them on Etsy, and earn money over time). The E-Printables Side Hustle Course is a great course that teaches you absolutely everything you need to know to make money selling printables.

My friend Julie has earned over $5,000 with her printable side hustle and she says it’s a great way to make extra money. She recently became a mom, so this side hustle is a great way to earn money even on maternity leave.

2. Sell digital stickers on Etsy

Another great side hustle related to Etsy is selling digital planners and digital stickers. My friend Michelle sells digital planners and stickers on Etsy. Michelle personally uses digital planners and digital stickers, so she decided to sell them herself. She made over $700 her first month in profit. In her second month, she made over $1,000 in profit.

She even created an affordable course teaching others how to do the same, which you can see here. She even says you don’t need to have any prior skills, you do not need a background in drawing, no special software required, and anyone can do this. This is a great side hustle for people looking to make some extra money every month.

I love side hustles like this because you put in a few hours of work, upload your digital products to Etsy, and then earn extra money for months to come. You can check out the Digital Stickers Course here.

3. Proofreader

If you have a talent for words and reading, proofreading is for you. Proofreading is a skill that is in high-demand because businesses need to look professional. When a business has mistakes in their writing, it’s not ideal. I personally hire a proofreader for large projects and cannot imagine not having one.

Proofreaders can work remote and from anywhere in the world. Having a computer and reliable internet access is a must.

Here is a free workshop to help you turn your skills into a remote proofreading job.

4. Cleaning the environment

Did you know you can make money by cleaning parking lots? My friend Brian Winch started a cleaning service in 1981. He cleans commercial properties whether it be parking lots, sidewalks, or landscapes. Now, he also teaches other people how to get started.

I know what you’re thinking, how do you even get started doing something like this? CleanLots is a comprehensive guide that teaches you how to start and run a litter removal business. There’s a lot of money to be made in this space because let’s face it, parking lots can become a huge mess and it reflects poorly on the business.

5. Writing for both small & large publications

If you have a talent for writing or think it’s something that you’d enjoy, becoming a freelance writer is a great idea. I was a freelance writer in college and found it be an easy way to earn extra money by writing articles for websites.

If you’re interested in learning more about making money as a freelance writer, I have two helpful articles from women who freelance write full-time.

If after reading those articles you find yourself seriously interested in freelance writing but need help getting stated, Earn More Writing is a great course that teaches you everything you need to know to become a successful writer. There is also a free workshop I recommend signing up for called How To Build A Six-Figure Writing Career.

6. Flipping items

Did you know you can make money by buying items and reselling them? You can earn even more money by fixing up an item and restoring it to a higher quality item.

If you want to learn how to buy and resell items for profit, Flipper University is an affordable way to learn how to create a profitable selling business in less than 14 days. The creators of this course created a side hustle that made them $42,000 their first year of side hustling and now make them over $133,00 a year.

7. Surveys

Surveys are not a lucrative way to make money, but they do provide a little cash when you need more money to buy groceries or household supplies.

To make money with surveys, all you do is fill out a quick profile sharing a little about you and then you can start answering questions and giving your opinions. You can also sign up for several survey site websites to see which survey site you like best and to see which one can earn you the most cash.

The top survey sites are:

8. Pinterest Virtual Assistant

If you enjoy scrolling through Pinterest, I have the side hustle for you. A Pinterest Virtual Assistant is in charge of helping businesses thrive on Pinterest. Businesses need to be on Pinterest because there’s a lot of money to be made on that platform, which is why Pinterest VA’s are in such high demand.

Pinterest Virtual Assistant’s are in charge of Pinterest pins, descriptions, SEO, making sure their clients get a ton of traffic and leads from Pinterest, and so much more.

If you’re interested in becoming a Pinterest VA, here is a free workshop: How To Become A Pinterest Virtual Assistant And Land Your First Client.

9. Blogging

Starting a blog is not a get rich quick scheme. The best way I can describe it is starting an online business. Most people don’t see a profit until a few months, maybe even a year of blogging. However, the benefits are amazing. I’ve been blogging full-time for 3 years and I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else.

I also have a couple helpful articles to read:

If you want to learn more about blogging full-time and how to get started, I have an amazing *free* course here.

The free course teaches you how to:

  • How to create your own blog from scratch
  • 10 things to do after launching your blog
  • How to monetize your blog from the beginning
  • The 1 blogging resource I recommend to new bloggers

10. Virtual Assistant

If you prefer working for someone else and getting tasks assigned to you, becoming a virtual assistant is a great remote job. Virtual assistants complete tasks like answering emails, scheduling social media posts, creating graphics for Pinterest and Facebook, managing social media platforms like Instagram, and many other tasks.

If you are seriously interested in learning how to become a virtual assistant, my friend Kayla teaches people everything they need to know to find jobs and make money doing this. She even has a free workshop here: 5 Steps To Become A Virtual Assistant.

11. Find a remote job on FlexJobs search engine

If you want a remote part-time or full-time job, FlexJobs is an online job marketplace similar to Indeed. FlexJobs is a step higher than Indeed because each job on FlexJobs goes through a thorough check to make sure it’s not a scam.

To browse and apply to jobs on FlexJobs, there’s a small fee since each job is scanned for quality and safety. However, if you don’t find a job, you can ask for a full refund, no questions asked. I personally tested FlexJobs, bought a 1-week membership to test out the site, and even asked for a refund. I highly recommend FlexJobs for remote jobs.

12. Amazon FBA

If you’re interested in reselling items, Amazon is also a great place to sell items. My friends over at The Selling Family earn a six-figure income reselling items via Amazon FBA and find that it’s the easiest and best place to resell items.

They even have a free Amazon FBA starter course to help if you decide if selling on Amazon is right for you.

13. Tutoring

Tutoring virtual or in-person is a great way to make money if you have certain skills that are in demand. Skills in subjects like mathematics and science usually pay the best and are always in demand.

Tutors can make up to $50 an hour, with some tutors charging triple that if they have qualifications and experience from a prestigious university.

The most popular tutoring websites are:

  • CourseHero
  • Tutor.com
  • Craigslist

You can see a full list of tutoring jobs here.

14. Dog walking

I was a dog walker for a long time and it was one of my favorite side hustles. It never felt like work and I always enjoyed every job.

To find a dog walking job, you can:

  • Print out flyers and post them around town with your experience and contact information
  • Create a profile on Rover (which is where I found my dog walking jobs)
  • Apply to work at a dog care company in your town (there are many, even in small towns)

Most dog walking jobs pay between $10-$30 per hour depending on how many dogs, experience you have, and if the dogs need any specialty care.

P.S. Starting any side hustle or online business can be hard at times. Sign up for my free Ultimate Business Toolkit that includes a progress tracker, goal sheet, day planner, and income tracker.

15. Tasker

Similar to Instacart, you can also become a Tasker for Task Rabbit. Task Rabbit connects Taskers with people who need help with services like grocery shopping, minor home repairs, moving, snow removal, computer help, and anything else you can think of that is a task.

You can go to Task Rabbit and click Become A Tasker in the bottom left corner. Search for your city and task that you’re best at and see what the going rates are.

16. Make and sell crafts

If you have a talent for making crafts, you can make money selling them. Crafts that make money include soaps, candles, bath bombs, jewelry, crochet/knit patterns, macrame hangings, hair accessories, furniture, and so much more. You can literally fall into a rabbit hole of craft ideas on Pinterest. There is so much inspiration there.

Places to sell your crafts:

  • Etsy
  • Farmers markets
  • Facebook marketplace
  • Craigslist

Here are a couple posts to give you craft ideas to make money.

17. Sell on Creative Market

  • Website themes
  • Logos
  • Fonts
  • Templates
  • Photos
  • Cards and invitations

18. Bookkeeper

A bookkeeper is in charge of filing receipts, recording sales, organizing expenses, and more. Bookkeepers earn up to $25 an hour and can earn much more depending on experience and qualifications.

19. Remote teaching

Teaching online is becoming a popular job for many reasons. Jobs are moving online for convenience and safety. If you enjoy teaching and working with children, I recommend becoming an online teacher.

*Update: VIPKID is not currently hiring at this moment due to conflicts related to the virus.*

20. Search Engine Evaluator

A Search Engine Evaluator is someone who rates websites, webpages, maps, songs, images, and other things.  Getting a job as a Search Engine Evaluator is simple. The pay isn’t lucrative, but it makes for a decent living if you want to work from home and essentially be your own boss.

If you’re a blogger or influencer, my course Making Sense of Sponsored Posts (in partnership with my sister) is a great way to learn how to make money by working with brands. We teach people how to reach out to brands, provide templates so you know exactly what to say in your email pitch, how much to charge, how to find sponsored opportunities, and a lot more.

23. Facebook Ad Manager

A Facebook Ad Manager is exactly what it sounds like, you manage Facebook ads for businesses.

You can earn $1,000-$2,000 with this side hustle, with many people going full-time and earning up to $10,000 a month. Local businesses hire Facebook Ad Managers because there’s a lot of money in Facebook. You can reach millions of people and make a lot of money by getting new customers and clientele to your business.

You can learn more about becoming a Facebook Ad Manager here.

24. Grocery shopping

Grocery shopping may seem like an easy task, but many people are no longer able to go to the grocery store due to safety reasons. Others simply do not have time to go grocery shopping and want to hire out the task.

To make money grocery shopping, become an Instacart Shopper. You get to set your own schedule and earn money on your time. To get started, you need to pass a background check, be at least 18 years old, have legal authorization to work in the U.S., lift 40 pounds with accommodation, and have access to a car and smart phone.

25. Freelance services

Aside from freelance writing, you can also hire out many other freelance services such as:

  • Graphic design
  • Voice over
  • Website design
  • FlexJobs
  • Translation
  • Fiverr
  • Video & animation
  • Finance consulting
  • and a lot more

If you have a service you can provide to people online, host your services and tell people what you can do for them. Build your portfolio and gain experience so it gets easier to get clientele.

26. Ebates

Ebates lets you earn cash back at your favorite stores. I’ve been using Ebates for years and have made so much money through them just by doing my regular shopping. I typically earn 1%-10% cash back and get paid via PayPal or gift cards. Earn a $10 welcome bonus here for signing up for Ebates.

To make things easier, Ebates recently come out with a browser extension that automatically applies coupons and activates cash back at stores you shop at online. I love and highly recommend this extension so you never forget to apply Ebates at checkout. I used to forget so often and I hate thinking about the money I missed out on.

27. Ibotta

Ibotta is similar to Ebates, but is great for in-person shopping, particularly at grocery stores. You can find cash back on a ton of groceries, including fruits and vegetables. You get paid cash via PayPal or gift cards. Ibotta is also really cool because when you refer people to Ibotta, you create a team which helps you earn even more money when you use the app.

28. Sell items you no longer use

This is a great time to clean and organize your house. Start a sell or donate pile and start listing your items online. Check out what other people are listing similar items for and list it for the same price. Create a high-quality listing by sharing details of the item, high-quality pictures, and stating you only want serious inquiries.

We’ve personally sold used furniture, bike parts, scooters, and other random items we stopped using this year. We found the most success on Facebook marketplace.

You can sell items on:

  • Craigslist
  • Facebook marketplace
  • Ebay
  • LetGo
  • Poshmark
  • Etsy

29. Billshark

Billshark is a company that negotiates bills for you. They have professional negotiators on staff that call bill companies for you to lower your bills. I’ve personally used Billshark to lower my cell phone and internet bill. I saved over $290 in 1 year with Billshark and instead got to use that money on things that I enjoy.

Billshark can lower bills such as:

  • Internet
  • Cell phone
  • Cable
  • Satellite radio

See how much you can save with Billshark here.

30. CIT Bank

A quick way to earn extra money is by using an online bank. Online banks are known for providing much higher savings rates than your traditional local bank.

For example, my local bank offers a savings rate of 0.02% on a savings account (literally pennies), while my online bank currently offers 1.00%. Before the craziness started in 2020, my  online bank savings rate was 2.00%. Savings rates are affected by the Federal Reserve, which is why you often see a lot of changes with savings rates.

If you have a savings account or emergency fund, you may as well take advantage of online banks and their higher saving rates so your money earns money while sitting in the account.

You can learn more about CIT Bank here.

31. Tello Mobile

If you think you’re overpaying for cell phone service, you probably are. Tello Mobile offers plans for as low as $14 a month. I personally tested Tello Mobile for 1 month and was surprised at how great the service was. They use the same phone towers as Sprint reaching over 280 million people, there are no hidden fees, no contracts, and run on a 4G LTE network.

See how much you can save with Tello Mobile here.
