I recently decided to start a new piece for my blog regarding my traveling.
Traveling has become a huge part of my life now and I want to be able to remember these travels as best as possible. Many of my memories of travels have already become a little foggy, so why not create a post so that I can look back on them in the future?
I traveled to St. Thomas with my sister in the month of May back in 2013. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort. This was the first vacation I took in a long time and it felt great to go somewhere tropical and amazingly beautiful. I prepared myself by looking at photos online and browsing around on Pinterest, and I couldn’t wait any longer to get on the plane to go.
Budget Tip: We had to take a connecting flight from our hometown to Miami first, but I didn’t mind since we actually save money doing so.
Connecting flights actually make the flight cost less, so don’t get bothered at all when you have to do so.
It’s also a lot cheaper to get round trip tickets in advance rather than single tickets, as you will see these are most of the time more expensive than getting round trip tickets at once.
My sister and I stayed at Sugar Bay Resort in St. Thomas. I was only 18 at the time and had the availability to drink on the island because of the legal drinking age of 18. I remember being incredibly nervous to order my drink, and sure enough, she didn’t even card me.
This resort was BEAUTIFUL. I couldn’t even believe my eyes. I never saw such clear blue waters.
What did we do while we were in St Thomas?
Paddle-boarding – We did this every day we were at the resort. I never went paddle-boarding before and I wasn’t sure how I would do considering my balance isn’t all that great. Shockingly, I was able to stand up all the way through with no difficulty. This is great for anyone, even if you are a beginner and it’s an AMAZING workout! This was free at our stay at SugarBay Resort.
Kayaking – This was also free at SugarBay Resort and I remember taking the most beautiful photos while on our kayaking ride. The views and scenery were breathtaking, but I also remember thinking about what sea creatures were under me… I am deathly afraid of octopus’ and sharks.
Parasailing – This was INSANE. I was extremely excited for this up until we actually went up in the air. I actually remember closing my eyes and just pretending I was back on the boat. Then I thought about how much this cost and not only that, I had to remember the beauty of what I was able to see from so up high.
Snorkeling – Free as well with SugarBay Resort. I wish I had a GoPro back then because the fish I saw underwater were so beautiful. As I was getting farther and farther out into the ocean, I started to freak out more because of everything getting darker and deeper.
Unlimited Eating– Breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet. The views from the breakfast buffet were out of this world. I remember telling myself that I would one day work at that exact resort. Apart of me still wants to get into hotel management.
One of my favorite parts about this place was the bar in the pool. I don’t know why, but I’ve had such a fascination with this kind of thing since I was little even when I couldn’t legally drink, I still thought it was awesome that you could drink in a pool!
If I ever go back to St. Thomas, I definitely want to go out on different hikes, experience the nightlight, and visit other islands around as well. I wanted to go scuba diving SO bad while I was there, but it was too expensive. I still have never been scuba diving but hope to soon.
