Before I started my weight loss journey, I had no idea where to go gym wise. There were many gyms in my area but I wasn’t sure which one to choose. I saw many commercials and ads for different gyms around my neighborhood.

They all said the same thing in each of their ads/commercials. That they were the best gym around and had the best equipment with no judgment allowed.
Tip 1: Before you ever sign a contract with a gym (or give your credit card information to pay monthly-some gyms don’t require a contract) make sure you do a practice free trial with the gym first. Get a feel for the gym and see how it makes you feel. Are you comfortable here? Does the equipment have signs on them saying they are broken or unavailable?
Tip 2: Find a gym with group classes available. These classes usually come free with the gym membership and are fun. Your gym should offer a good amount of different kinds of classes. You can meet people here and even find a workout buddy!
Tip 3: Locker rooms/bathrooms/showers. Are these rooms clean and spacious or dirty and cramped? You will be changing in here and using the facilities so you want to make sure they are clean.
Tip 4: Staff. Are the staff here nice and helpful? Or mean and judgmental? You will be surrounded with the staff here so you want to make sure they are friendly! (They better be!)
Tip 5: What other amenities do they offer? Do they have other things you enjoy like a pool, sauna, spinning room, things like that?
Tip 6: Do they offer personal training?
Tip 7: Do they offer to babysit? I don’t have kids but if I did this would very much come in handy. My gym offers free babysitting. The kids can play in an inside playground and also get physical activity while you get a good workout as well. Win-win situation right here.
Tip 8: Do they have more gyms than one? If they have a chain of gyms in your city or all over the country then this will come in handy. If your gym has a chain of gyms around your area there will never be an excuse of not wanting to drive far. I am able to go to a gym right next to my house or right next to my job.
What gym do you go to?
