Sweet, Hollywood rides—audiences all over the world love seeing them shown off and put to the test when we go to the movies. After all, movies allow us to live vicariously through the experiences of their characters; who wouldn’t want to go gallivanting through space and time in the DeLorean, or rocket by at 100+ speeds in one of The Fast and the Furious’ turbo-charged machines.
It’s a fantasy and it’s a superb one; however, if we were to put our feet a little more firmly on the ground and actually imagine what the cost would be to own one of these vehicles, the majority of us would probably just stick to the movies. If you’re interested in finding out what it would cost to get your own car insurance check out HBF today.
Compiled below are Hollywood’s most iconic vehicles, along with their—cringe—real world insurance costs (based on the most comparable vehicle available today).
Thank goodness we can get our fix in a movie theater!
CADILLAC CTS from MATRIX: RELOADED
Film Appearance: This mid-size, luxury, sports sedan suited the super modern, technology-laden, atmosphere of the iconic Matrix franchise to a tee; specifically, the second film in the series. Driven by the film’s protagonists, the Cadillac CTS ripped and roared down the traffic-heavy California freeways and certainly didn’t do so without significant damage dealt. Lucky for these protagonists, a totaled Cadillac CTS is easy to replace—not the case for the average bear!
Yearly Car Insurance Estimate: $1,936.51
Monthly Payments: $161.38
Compared to: Cadillac CTS-V
Whew—that’s pricey! When combined with a monthly car payment, this beauty would cost ya—and this is all before your MVR becomes a factor—yikes!
BMW i8 VISION EFFICIENT|DYNAMICS from MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4
Film Appearance: This vehicle doesn’t actually exist… yet! It’s not as far-fetched as some of the others we’ve included, though, and was in fact featured as a concept car. It’s a plug-in hybrid that’s purpose was to prove that green cars could still be lean, mean, and super-fast! Said to be able to reach up to 150mph (accelerating to 60mph in under 5 seconds), it certainly proved itself to be the perfect companion to Tom Cruise’s impossible daredevil tactics.
Yearly Car Insurance Estimate: Approximately estimated between $1,600 to $2,000
Monthly Payments: $133.33 to $166.67
Compared to: Nothing that actually exists yet—estimate only
Those numbers might actually seem low to you, for such a beast machine, and it is true that BMW’s tend to rack up expensive insurance costs. However, it is a hybrid and these green vehicles actually tend to be less expensive to insure, when directly compared to their non-hybrid counter-vehicles.
MAZDA RX-7 from THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS
Film Appearance: Driven by Dominic “Dom” Toretto—Vin Diesel’s character—this little 1993 blast-from-the-past was nitro boosted, turbo-charged, and completely tricked out. Surprisingly, though, it isn’t one of the most expensive to insure, compared to many others on our list. Of course, this car—specifically from this movie—tends to attract young, inexperienced, drivers; that will definitely increase the insurance!
Yearly Car Insurance Estimate: $1,790
Monthly Payments: $149.16
Compared to: Mazda RX-8
