In August, I made a huge purchase and bought a Trek bike.
I’m not the type of person who is comfortable spending more than $50 on anything, so spending almost $700 was a pretty big deal for me.
However, it was TOTALLY worth it. Even though I had mild anxiety from the purchase. #crazybudgeter
5 or so years ago, I embarked on a weight loss journey. Though hitting the gym and running at the park made me (sort of) happy and content, I have never in my life experienced the feeling I get when I’m on my bike and hitting the trails.
Riding a mountain bike that is made for trails, loops, and hard terrain gives me such a (good) adrenaline rush.
Why choose mountain biking as a physical activity:
- Low pressure on joints
- Decreases stress
- Good option if you’ve been injured and need to get back into physical activity
- Works your heart and lungs meaning better blood flow and fitness level
- Optimizes fat burning
I’ve been on a bike before ($100 Walmart bike), but not a LEGIT bike that has all the insane specs this bike has.
There’s a huge difference between riding a cheap bike versus a bike that costs close to $1,000.
How I saved on this bike:
I browsed around at other stores online. The bike I wanted was at several stores, and I found the cheapest option. However, the cheapest option was over an hour away, so I went to a shop 10 minutes from my house and asked if they price match.
They said yes! Not only that, they said they were getting ready to lower the prices since the new 2018 bikes were coming in.

Products I bought to enhance my biking experience:
I bought a training jersey and cycling shorts to make my ride more comfortable. My training jersey has back pockets so I can stuff my phone and keys in.
My shorts have insanely good padding. I rode without the shorts for a couple weeks and the pain… My butt will never forgive me.
Biking gear is super expensive. However, I took a risk and bought biking gear for super cheap on Amazon. I got super lucky because everything I got ended up being exactly what was pictured. #AmazonWin!

I also bought a mini bag that attached to my seat and a water bottle from Power Pedal in San Marcos, Texas.
If you get a bike, I strongly urge you to take extra safety precautions. I’ve almost been hit several times, and I do believe the reflective gear I have on my bike has helped me several times.
If you’ve never tried mountain biking, I strongly urge you to do so! If you don’t like going to the gym, you should definitely still go as it helps with strength training, but instead of running on a treadmill to get your cardio in, invest in a bike. It will never feel like you’re working out and it’s an amazing stress reliever.
I want to disclose that I know a $700 mountain bike is cheap in the “pro” biking world. I know very well that bikes can get up to $10,000 and more.
