I love the holiday season because I love giving gifts. An added bonus of giving gifts is giving a present that the person needs (or didn’t know they needed!).
I used to buy presents for people that would end up in their basement, but now I’m really thoughtful about the gift I give because I don’t want to add clutter to people’s lives. Instead, I gift a gift OR a service. You’ll hear more about this later.
Here are 23 gift ideas on a budget. Each gift also has a special note sharing who the gift is great for. 🙂
1. 23 And Me DNA Test
A 23 And Me Test can reveal incredible things about someone, such as how their specific DNA influences their health and what you may pass onto your children. This is such a fun gift because most people never think about buying something like this for themselves.
Perfect for: Anyone curious about their ancestry.
2. Canine Dog DNA Test
Again, another item that no one ever thinks to get themselves (or their pup). Such a fun gift for someone who wants to see what breed(s) their dog is, the dogs health results, their ideal weight, and a lot more. There’s even an example dog DNA test results on Wisdom Panel’s website so you can see what it’s like.
Perfect for: The dog lover.
3. Organic Herb Starter Kit
This indoor organic herb starter kit comes with everything to grow basil, cilantro, parsley, sage, and thyme, all in your house. And the reviews are great!
Perfect for: Anyone who loves herbs.
4. Productivity Planner
I’ve been using this exact planner for several months now and it’s a game changer.
Unlike other planners, this planner works by making sure you’re maximizing productivty by using the Pomodora technique, which is a time management system that motivates you to work. You break down tasks into 25 minute increments seperated by 5 minute breaks. It’s really amazing and SO worth it if you need help getting more done.
Perfect for: Someone who is busy and needs to get more done.
5. Clever Budget Planner
I love using various methods of budget planning. I’ve used apps, Microsoft Excel sheets, and planners.
Right now, I’m using the Clever Fox Budget Planner because I like writing things down. Plus, I get to add in certain money-saving goals I have and at the end of every month, there are sheets for monthly budget reviews.
This budget is super handy for someone who prefers pen and paper budgeting.
Perfect for: Someone who has been talking about wanting to start budgeting.
6. BestSelf co Planner
Last year, I was at a Fidelity meetup for women in the personal finance community. Each of us were gifted a Best Selfco Planner. I’ve only used it a handful of times because I already have a planner, but once I’m done using my current planner, I plan on using the Best Selfco Planner.
This planner is different from others because it breaks down your goals into smaller chunks so you can complete them slowly over time. There’s a section for daily target tasks you want to complete and the lessons you learned that day. It’s really neat because you get to reflect on your day, which I’ve found to be really helpful.
Perfect for: Someone who wants to increase productivity and happiness.
7. Side Hustle
This blog started out as a hobby, turned into a side hustle, and eventually became a full-time business that I run from anywhere in the world. Giving the gift of teaching someone how to start a side hustle can be life-changing.
Side hustles can help people transition to working from home, spending more time with their family, expanding their skillset, and making more money.
Here are some of the top side hustles I recommend. If the person you’re getting a gift for is interested in starting a side hustle, ask them which one! A course would be such an amazing surprise for a friend or family member. Some courses can cost more than a regular gift, but you could cover a portion to get the person started on their side hustle.
- Freelance writing. I used Earn More Writing to help me get started in the freelance writer field, which helped me land on sites like GoBankingRates and many others. I went from charging $50 to $250 per article and now, I know I can charge much more than that with my writing experience.
- Sell Etsy Printables. This side hustle is almost entirely passive, meaning you do the work in one sitting, and then get paid for it for months and years to come. With just a few hours of work, Julie’s made over $5,000 selling printables on Etsy. Julie recently created Etsy Printables where she shows you exactly how to make money selling Etsy Printables. I’ve gone through it myself and plan on adding this as a side hustle myself because it’s one of the easiest ways to make passive income. You can check out the Etsy Printables course here.
- Facebook Ad Manager. There are over 27 million businesses in the U.S. with over 500,000 new businesses starting every month. Out of 27 million businesses, all you need is 1-2 clients to make $1,000 a month. You can learn how to become a Facebook Ads Manager in less than 28 days with the Facebook Side Hustle Course.
Perfect for: Someone who wants to make more money or start a side hustle.

13. Toilet Night Light
A seriously underrated item is the toilet night light. I originally saw this idea on Shark Tank and it is genius.
Instead of turning on the bathroom light every time you go to the bathroom, the toilet senses when someone comes in the bathroom and turns on a dim light.

21. Starbucks Gift Card
Starbucks is a great for anyone, enough said.

The design is really neat as the moon is held up in a hand. The lighting creates a great ambiance and sets the mood (whatever your mood may be).
Perfect for: Anyone who loves the solar system.
23. Amazon Gift Card
There’s nothing better than gifting money so your friend or family member can purchase whatever they want. A lot of people have an Amazon wish list filled with things they really want (my wish list is filled with a cake decorating set).
Even better, this Amazon gift can comes in a cute cupcake set
Perfect for: Everyone
