The tax deadline this year is Monday, April 18th. However, it’s only January right now and I always recommend that a person starts preparing to file their taxes as soon as the year begins.
There are many reasons for this, with the top reason being that you can get your taxes done early and not have to deal with them! Wouldn’t it be amazing to have your taxes done way before the deadline? That way you won’t have to rush to find anything that you need in order to prepare your taxes. Plus, you can relax a little knowing that you are not in a time crunch.
For me, I always DIY my taxes. My tax situation is fairly simple because I just have W2 income and income from this blog (this blog does not make me rich, haha!). Other than that, though, I do not have a house, children, multiple businesses, investments (I’m working on this area) or anything else that may make my tax return a little more difficult if you combined everything together.
Due to the reasons above, I have always filed my taxes by myself online. It’s super easy, plus very affordable.
How does filing your taxes online work?
The company I plan on using this year to file my taxes is 1040.com. If you want to file your taxes online, I think you should check 1040.com out. They make it super fast and easy to file your taxes, plus you may be able to do yours for free through their website.
Their easy interview guides you through your taxes, helps you find credits and deductions that will maximize your refund, and then you can also e-file for free. If you have a state return to file as well, there is a fee for that but they make it super easy to file your state return. They transfer federal data to your state return automatically, which is a big time saver.
Here’s an image that shows you their pricing for filing your tax return:
As you can see, the pricing is pretty affordable. If you qualify for the free federal tax return filing, your state filing is less than $10!
This is the cheapest I’ve ever seen.
Plus, another great thing about 1040.com is their partnership with Healing Waters. International (HWI), a Colorado-based non-profit organization that teams up with communities in developing countries to provide clean water and health and hygiene education.
1040.com is going to give $2 to Healing Waters for every tax return filed through their site. Even if someone files a free simple return as you can see the pricing and guarantees above, they are still going to donate $2 for that free returns as well!
That is pretty amazing! $2 buys a 2 month supply of clean water for one person!
Here are some interesting facts about HWI and clean water from 1040.com’s website:
- Reducing time spent traveling to a water source by 15 to 30 minutes would equal a 12% increase in girls’ school attendance.
- 443 million school days are lost each year due to water-related diseases.
- In developing countries, as much as 80% of illnesses are linked to poor water and sanitation conditions.
- HWI develops affordable, state-of-the-art water filtration systems transform dirty water into safe water anywhere in the world.
