Ah, Christmas time.
Snow, Christmas lights, and holiday decorations are in full swing and the air smells of fresh cinnamon and freshly baked cookies (preferably gingerbread).
The holiday season is the perfect time to travel abroad, but make sure to book flights, accommodations, and more ahead of time.
Do you live somewhere that gets no snow or doesn’t feel like Christmas is in the air?
Traveling abroad and visiting one of the cities below will take that feeling away and leave you with memories that your entire family will talk about forever.
Below are 7 cities you must visit at least once during the holiday season.
1. Nuremberg, Germany
Nuremberg is a beautiful city to visit during the holiday season. The city has a large Christmas market set up, also known as a Christkindlmarkt, where 150 owners will sell homemade toys, treats, hot mulled wine, and many other Christmas-related items. Nuremberg also has a castle on your trip, which will be quite a treat to see in the snowy weather. You can learn more about Nuremberg during the holidays here.

2. Aspen, Colorado
There is so much to do in Aspen during the holidays, which is why this city is a popular tourist spot during the month of December.
The city is the perfect place for outdoor folk to get their skiing and or snowboarding in, as well as drinking hot chocolate by the fire. Hotels and Airbnb’s book fast in Aspen, so you’ll want to book way ahead of time.
Ok – so you won’t get any snow here, but Mexico will be incredibly cheap compared to the peak season months. So if you’re looking for warmer weather, visit Cancun or Cozumel to get your island fix in without spending almost a thousand dollars (or more) on your trip.

4. Vienna, Austria
Vienna is one of the top cities in the world to visit during the holiday season. The buildings and beautiful architecture will light up and glow all around you while you breathe in freshly baked cookies. The Vienna Square will host a huge Christmas market filled with handcrafted goods with the Belvedere Palace in the backdrop.
5. New York City, New York
I couldn’t make this list and not put NYC on it. New York City and Chicago are both cities that must be seen during Christmas.
There is so much to do and see in the city that you’d definitely need to make this trip as long as possible. During your stay in New York, you must visit the popular Rockefeller tree, Central Park (go ice skating while you’re there), go see The Rockettes, and simply stroll down 5th avenue and take in all the Christmas joy.
6. Leavenworth, Washington
Leavenworth is one of the most beautiful cities to visit, whether it’s Christmas or not.
This city is known for being an exclusively Christmas-themed city, so if you want to get your holiday-joy in during the summer, it’s a beautiful city to sit back and relax in. The entire town is lit up and the beautiful architecture makes this the perfect city for a romantic getaway or with the kids.
7. Colmar, France
Colmar, France is another beautiful town to visit with a lot of charm. The city will hold its very own Christmas market where booth owners will make delicious treats in front of you.
