I was inspired to write this post because of how many negative topics are floating around in the news lately. There’s been a buildup of some kind of fire in me to make the world a better place.
There’s also times when I think I can make a huge drastic change, but then I realize I’m only one person. I know I have the ability to help out the world in many ways, but I need to realize that the world is and will never be perfect.
So what can we all do to help? We all can help out others here and there by doing even the tiniest of things.
1. Did you know that 54% of people over the age of 65 have a computer or access to a computer?
OATS (which stands for Older Adults Technology Services). You can volunteer or work for them. The majority of people in this age range do not know how to use computers devices, which is what our generation is surrounded by today. Why does it possibly matter whether or not an older person knows how to use the internet?
Well, it can first help them get in touch with family far away. This helps people elderly people who are feeling alone or depressed. I never knew how much of a problem this was until reading about it in an article awhile ago. There are many different ways you can help an individual with this, and this is not the only company that is offering these services.
2. Become educated on how to become more environmentally friendly.
I recently watched a documentary called Plastic Paradise on Netflix. It was not only mind-blowing to hear how much land was covered with plastic, but it was also shocking to realize how much plastic I use myself. I had to take a step back and realize how much I was wasting.
I immediately started to feel guilty and ashamed. I am making sure to not longer buy plastic water bottles, plastic bags at the store (use reusable bags instead), etc. This documentary got me so upset. We are not only destroying the world, but we are killing our animals and wildlife as well.
This book really changed the outlook I had on myself. It made me become a much better person.
3. “Speak without saying a word. A lot can be said without words.” ~Ralph Rocha
Develop a reputation of someone who is selfless and generous.
Help others in small or large ways as often as you can. This will create a chain reaction and people will be inspired and motivated by your kindness. There are many people in the world that have simply given us. There has never been so much negative in the world than there is now, and people seem to simply be giving up.
I know many people who say they’ve simply lost faith in faith in the world, but that shouldn’t be the case at all! Plenty of good things are constantly going on around the world, but people don’t know of it because it’s not always broadcasted on the news.
4. “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” ~Mother Teresa
Like I mentioned above, I have this fire inside me that feels like I have to help everyone in the world. That obviously isn’t realistic, and shouldn’t matter either. The world will never be perfect and it would be a bit boring if it was. Even if you simply help just one person, one is a lot better than zero.
It also doesn’t even have to be a person you’re helping. There are so many animals in the world that are in of dire need of our help. Volunteer for an animal shelter or an agency like Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS). Spending just a couple hours a week with these animals or kids will change their life. You will give them hope, trust me.

5. Go abroad.
Many people would tell me that there is enough going on in our country as it is, why go abroad to help other countries? Many reasons! The children and adults in developing countries are treated so unfairly, and it gets even more difficult if they have special needs.
People sometimes wonder why I am paying to volunteer abroad when I could get paid to do it here in the states. Well, why not? I might only be helping out for 2 months, but you bet I’ll be doing my very best to help out any way possible. Not even just help but make these kids laugh and smile every day I am there.
