I recently wrote a post on 15 college student jobs and it has become my most popular post on FITnancials. Because of that, I’ve decided to expand and share side hustles that are popular among parents.
Having children alone is a full-time job (I was a nanny once and OMG I don’t know how you parents do it).
Still, sometimes stay at home moms (or dads) like to mix into a side hustle or two either because they enjoy it or want extra money.
The awesome thing about side hustles is that they can turn into full-time jobs or inspire someone to start a business of their own in the field.
Below are 20 jobs that are perfect for stay at home moms or dads.

Though blogging is not an easy or get rich quick job, it can become a great paying job if enough time and effort are put into it.
I’ve been a full-time blogger since October 2016 and it has allowed me to keep a flexible schedule and travel freely whenever I wish. I’m also my own boss, which is one of the greatest things ever.

2. Teach English
In 2016, a teacher made $75,000 teaching children English. He did this by using an online platform called VIPKID.
VIPKID is currently ranked at number 5 on the Forbes list of best online jobs. The online service is currently hiring online teachers.
Requirements to become a VIPKID teacher:
- Exposure to the American or Candian K-12 education system
- Minimum 1 year of traditional teaching experience OR the equivalent in Mentoring, Tutoring, Alternative education, Coaching, Supervising, Pastors, Church Leaders, Nursery School Assistants, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree

3. Sell on Amazon

4. Flipping Items
Melissa makes $133,000 a year flipping items.
These are a few of the things she’s flipped for profit:
- An item that they bought for $10 and flipped for $200 just 6 minutes later.
- A security tower they bought for $6,200 and flipped for $25,000 just one month later.
- A prosthetic leg that they bought for $30 at a flea market and sold for $1,000 on eBay the next day.
She even created a course called Flipper University that teaches students how to become a successful flipper. Melissa says her students can expect to make $500-$2,500 per month in their first year.
5. Make cash back when you shop
Ibotta and Ebates are both useful apps for getting cash back on purchases either from online or in person.
For Ibotta, all you have to do is choose a store and redeem whichever products you want to buy at the store. Then you’ll scan your receipt and the app does all of the work for you.
For Ebates, you can save on thousands of items at hundreds of stores. You can save on flights, anything travel-related, Amazon, clothing stores, and more. Both apps are essential to saving money on purchases you’d make anyway.
Transcription is the art of turning any audio or video content into a text document. You can transcribe legal documents, medical documents, and even regular documents for people who run podcasts who want to turn their podcast into a text version, too. The possibilities are endless.

7. Freelance Proofreader

Becoming a bookkeeper has several benefits, such as low startup costs, high profit, freedom to work remote, and plenty more.
As a bookkeeper, you can expect to earn an average of $62 per hour.

9. Rent out a room on Airbnb
Do you have an empty room in your house?
Renting your room out on Airbnb allows you to make hundreds of dollars a month (possibly thousands depending on your location and quality of the house/room). You’d be hosting guests from all over the world which will let you learn about other cultures and ways of life without even leaving your home.

Fiverr is an online marketplace for freelancers to display their skills and services. This website is a great place for graphic designers, writers, programmers, and other freelance jobs to post or find jobs. You can find jobs here from businesses all over the world that need part-time or full-time help.

11. Sell your skills
Do you know how to play an instrument? Do you have a lot of experience styling hair or makeup? You can list your services on Craigslist and flyers across town with what services you’re offering, as well as your rates and openings.
12. Write for websites
Writing for websites is a great way to make side income at home. You’ll definitely want to build your portfolio at first, but once you get a couple semi-popular websites under your belt, you’ll see more and more offers and be able to charge a higher amount.

Pay: Varies from $50+ each article (someone with an impressive portfolio can charge $1000+ an article)
13. Walk dogs
I charged $15 per for 1 dog and $20 for 2 dogs for a 30-minute walk. The more reviews and experience you have, the more you can charge.

14. Tech repairs
If you’re familiar with computers and tech repairs, offering this service can become an awesome part-time side hustle to bring you some extra cash.
You can post your services on Facebook, Craigslist, freelancing websites, or go to businesses in person and tell them what you offer. Most businesses have a website and you could even offer a monthly service or membership to run their website and social media.
15. House cleaning
Task Rabbit and other apps and online websites let you showcase your services, rates, and experience to people looking for a house cleaning. This picks up around the summer time as most people are moving out and need someone to professionally clean their apartment or house.
You can charge a minimum of $15, and go up from there. In our experience, companies have charged $60 per hour for 2 professional maids, so $15 would definitely be on the low end.

16. Social Media Consultant
A social media consultant has the ability to bring many customers (which means money) to a business, which is why businesses are getting serious about social media and hiring social media consultants.
The job of a social media consultant is to rank on Google, keep up with all social media platforms, attract new customers online, deliver traffic to the website, and a lot more. You can learn more about social media consulting here.
17. Hosting exchange students
Hosting an exchange student either gives you a one lump sum payment or you can to deduct around $50 in taxes per month on your taxes every year.
Hosting a student from abroad is also a great way to learn another language and get a feel for another way of life from a culture across the world.
You also get to share your life with the exchange student and show them your lifestyle.
Do you excel in a certain subject? Tutors are constantly needed both online and in person at libraries or colleges.
You can offer your services at schools, libraries, or online through Skype. Science and math subjects are most needed for students since those subjects seem to be a struggle for students the most.
The more experience and education you have on a subject, the more you can charge per hour.
19. Pick up a seasonal job
Seasonal jobs can be anything from working in retail to working during the festival season.
A seasonal job is perfect for someone who wants a short-term job and it gives you the chance to see if you enjoy working in the field or not. You’ll make some extra money during a particular season while also gaining skills and experience. You can find seasonal jobs on Indeed.com and on Craigslist’s job listings.

20. Personal Trainer
Do you have a personal training certificate? Do you have education or training in nutrition? Both of these skills pay well per hour and have the ability to change lives. You’ll have to come up with your own programs, or you can sign a contract at a gym, or run your own business at a park or at home.
If you’re trained in dietetics and nutrition, offering an eating or meal plan service can help clients eat healthier foods and reach their goals.
Pay: $50 per hour
Side hustles are a great way to make extra money, but also improve your skills. Many of these can help you improve your confidence and even explore different areas of interests that you might’ve never thought about before.
