Hello everyone! I am here to do a quick school update and how everything has been going. I am currently taking 5 classes in the Fall Semester, and paying out-of-pocket for this semester. I am going to a local community college for my general education courses and some are interesting to me and some not so much. I am currently taking American History, a Cornerstone course related to Health Policies in our nation, American Politics, General Psychology, and Sociology.
I’m struggling in one class!
The class I am continuing to struggle the most in is American History. I definitely feel like if I was more interested in this class and learning about History I would obviously do better. Taking this course online definitely changes things up a bit. During this course all our assignments include reading chapters in our History book and participating in discussion boards, which doesn’t leave much room to learn much about anything in my opinion.
The other class I am doing average in, is General Psychology. I find this class pretty interesting for many reasons, including learning about the mental functions of the brain and various other topics as well. The part I do struggle in remembering is everything including the neurons and those functions.
The class I still find the most interesting is Sociology, and that’s probably why my grade is so high in there as well. I actually enjoy learning about Sociology and the many different topics it presents.
There is a difference between taking classes online and offline.
The downside of online courses, as I’ve said before, is I’m not getting in class discussion and discussions with my professors as well. Although I can go to campus and speak with my professors, I am only allowed to at certain times. Next semester I plan on taking the ‘easier’ courses online and the more difficult courses at school.
It is now the midterm of the semester and I feel like my grades could be a little bit better than they are, but I feel like I am doing pretty good as well. I can’t wait to start taking classes that are more in my field of what I am trying to do. I have been a bit hard on myself because coming into these general education courses, I thought I would fly by them since they were ‘general education’ courses. Obviously that was a dumb thought of mine and I learned every course takes a bit of work unless you’re one of those people who don’t need to do much to get by in school.
I have about 8 weeks of school left (I think) and I can’t wait for Winter break. Being back in school has been great, but I am definitely ready for a short break.
Are you currently in school? If so, when you took online courses, how did you do?
Did you struggle or find it relatively easy?
