Being fit doesn’t have to be expensive, and it can actually be free in most cases. If you don’t have money for the gym, don’t go to a gym then.
Just because you don’t have money for a gym membership, doesn’t mean that you can’t do any kind of physical activity. Today, I will post a number of free or inexpensive activities I have done or am very interested in doing.
If you don’t have Groupon or LivingSocial yet, please get the app now. I’m still shocked when people tell me they have never heard of these apps/websites. They post everything from restaurant coupons, all the way to gadgets. Basically everything!
Rock Climbing
I have never been rock climbing, but this is such a big goal of mine to do. My sister bought me a day to a local rock climbing facility. I haven’t gone to the rock climbing gym yet but am very excited to do it. (Also extremely nervous. Not sure if I have the upper strength it takes LOL.) My sister bought my rock climbing pass on Groupon.
Canoeing
I absolutely love canoeing, and canoeing can be very inexpensive. During the Spring or Summer seasons, groupon and coupon sites like that have canoeing days for half off. I bought one last year, and it was extremely cheap to spend a day on the lake and canoe as well. Although I felt like my arms were going to fall off once the trip ended, I definitely felt stronger overall. Can’t wait to go canoeing again this year.
Swimming
This is pretty self explanatory. If you live nearby a lake or if your town has a local swimming pool, use it up. This activitiy can be free or very inexpensive no matter where you go.
Tennis
I haven’t played tennis in awhile, but definitely plan to this summer. Tennis is such an amazing full body workout.
Hiking/Bike Trails
I love hiking and taking long jogs/bike rides. When the weather starts warming up here in Missouri, I plan on finding more hiking trails. I know Craigslist and trail sites also have hiking groups that go on hikes together. This sounds like the route I will go because I don’t want to get kidnapped.
Fishing
One of my favorite hobbies. As long as you have a fishing pole and some bait, you’re set. Some places don’t allow fishing, but this in most cases is rare depending where you live. Fishing can burn more calories than you think. Not only is this activity free, but you can catch free dinner.
Workout Classes
Workout classes can be pricey depending on where you go. I’ve heard of many people doing classes in local parks and places like that. When the weather gets better I plan on trying these classes out.
One of my favorite places is the City Museum in St. Louis. If you ever visit St. Louis, this is one place you have to go to. It’s basically a 10 story adult sized gym. This place is for kids but adults as well. It’s the biggest playground you will ever seen in your life. Everytime I go there I get the best workout from climbing and running around the whole place.
What is your favorite activitiy to do that is free or inexpensive?
Rock climbing is probably one of the toughest yet rewarding activities I have ever done. I highly recommend it, once we have more time on our hands I plan to get back into it. My second favorite thing to do is to hike, especially with my wife. She’s not as much of a workout nut as me so hiking is a passive way of working out plus it’s enjoyable.
I’m kind of afraid to start rock climbing. It’s a bit intimidating. But I need together it over with.
