Easy switches to make your meals more healthy

Hello everyone! Today’s post will be more of a list post. Below is a list of things you can swap out and use instead to make your lifestyle healthier. You don’t necessarily have to delete things from your diet, just simple modify it.

-One of my FAVORITE swaps is using greek yogurt for spread. Instead of using mayonnaise on your wrap or sandwich, use greek yogurt. 4 ounces of greek yogurt is usually around 80 calories. A tablespoon or 2 of mayonnaise is usually 100 to 200 calories and loaded with fat and other things. Greek yogurt is filled with protein and it will fill you up. You can also make spinach dip with greek yogurt instead of drowning your spinach in cheeses.

- Instead of processed ice cream from the store, make your own. I found this recipe on Blogilates. Blend a frozen banana with almond milk and peanut butter. Delicious and looks exactly like ice cream. Plus you won’t feel guilty after finishing it all afterwards.

-Swap out processed, sugary oatmeal with 100% natural oats. Microwave or stove top the all natural oats. Mix in whichever fruits you want and cinnamon.

-Swap out white bread for whole wheat or whole grain. Simple fix.

-Swap out regular spaghetti noodles for spaghetti squash. This saves a ridiculous amount of calories and is much healthier for you.

-Swap out Mcdonalds french fries for homemade fries. Cut up potatoes or sweet potatoes and place it on a pan. Put the kind of seasonings you want on it. Just remember that seasonings can have a lot of sodium and salt in it.

-Instead of rice you can use grounded up cauliflower. This is also one of my favorite swaps. Saves so many calories along with other things as well.

-Swap out your ketchup and salsa. You can make your salsa homemade and mix up different kinds of peppers, cilantro, and lemon juice.

-Swap out regular milk for almond milk. You save a good amount of calories and almond milk is overal better for you.

-Fruit juice/soda for coffee. As long as you don’t mix in a bunch of cream and sugar into your coffee.

-Swap out the whole egg and yolk for just the white part of the egg. The yolk does have a lot of protein, but if you make 5 eggs, only eat 1 yolk for the 5 eggs.

-Swap out raisins for grapes.

-Swap out chips for popcorn. Popcorn is one of my favorite snacks. Try to stay away from the popcorn that is overloaded with butter. Stay away from the word extra!

-Swap out the mayo for mustard. Mayo is basically like eating a lard of fat.

What are some swaps you use to save some extra calories/fat? I would love to hear your ideas!

  2. Is fresh made juice (eg, fruit and veggies I buy and juice in my kitchen) still really that bad for you? Since there’s no added sugar or preservatives or anything, I’ve always thought it was really good for me.

  3. I LOVE LOVE LOVE almond milk! I’ve recently discovered coconut flavoured almond milk, and love it even more.

I’ve also started to make my own smoothies at home as often as I can. I foolishly thought that the pre-made stuff from the grocery store was healthy fr an embarrassingly long time. And then of course discovered that a bottle has over 120 grams of sugar!!
