Looking Cute When Working Out On A Budget

If you’re a girl then you most likely want to look semi-cute during your workout. I’m not talking about full blown hair and makeup done, but it feels good to have a good workout outfit on (at least in my opinion, when I look sort of good I push myself a lot further).

It puts me in the workout mood when I know that I’m wearing fun working out clothes. I know of some people who say that they would start working out if they had the money for cuter clothing items to wear when they work out. I don’t know what it is about it, but I do think that it helps.

My Athletic Clothing Budget

I never spend more than $20 on one piece of workout clothing, or at least I try not to. Spending more than this sometimes just seems ridiculous since I will just be sweating in them.

I do try and buy good quality shoes, as they can make or break you when you’re working out I feel like. Having bad shoes can hurt your feet and you might give up on your workout a little sooner.

Many stores like TJMAXX, ROSS, and Marshall’s have great workout clothes for low cost. I even check out the local thrift stores time to time. It’s usually hit or miss when I go to places like that though.

I can find plenty of workout tops but not anything else usually. It doesn’t hurt to stop by and look though. Sometimes they have brand new athletic clothes or gently worn that are still in great condition. Buying something at 70% of the normal price? Yes I want it!

Although I love Victoria Secret’s workout clothes, I can’t afford to spend $50 on a workout bra, especially when I of course need more than one (in my imaginary life where I won the lottery I totally would). But I don’t think it’s particularly necessary. Also,$75 sweatpants and $100 hoodies just seem a little excessive also. Maybe one day when I actually have money! :)

Since I workout or do something active at least everyday between Monday-Friday, I like to have cute workout outfits, since I’m spending the majority of my time in these clothes.

What are some of your favorite stores to buy workout clothes?

Where do you find the best deals?

  3. The last few workout items I’ve bought have been from Walmart. Of course, I’m very small town so I’d have to drive 30 minutes or an hour to shop at an athletic store or TJ Maxx. The Danskin brand seems to work pretty good for me :) Loving your posts Alexis!!

  4. Hi! I’m a new reader (I read your sister’s blog as well) and I hate to admit it but I really do feel better when I have “cute” workout clothes. I’m notorious for stalking Target’s workout section until stuff goes on clearance. I just got a really cute long sleeve workout shirt for $7!

  7. I usually buy workout clothes from Target and Old Navy. Target will have clearance sales or coupons every once in a while, which makes them even more affordable.

  8. Right or wrong, cute workout clothes definitely impact my motivation! TJMaxx, Ross and Marshall’s are my faves but I struck out recently when looking for yoga tanks. I ended up buying a couple from Sports Authority that I really love, but I spent more than I normally do. I feel justified, though, because I did search discount retailers for several months with no luck. I agree that buying quality running shoes is essential — you don’t want to buy cheap shoes that hurt your feet, knees or other joints because that can lead to pricey problems.
